School of Information Technology

The School of Information Technology offers master's and doctorate degrees in several technology focused areas. Our programs give students the opportunity to tailor their education to match their personal or professional goals.


Dean: Lynn Robert Carter, Ph.D.

Dr. Carter holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has served as both an academic at Carnegie Mellon University for 23 years (as well as other schools since he started teaching in 1971), and a software engineering professional, researcher, and leader at Tektronix, Motorola, GenRad, and several high-tech startups. At CMU he was active at the Software Engineering Institute on major projects with the United States Strategic Command, Naval Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity. He was also the founder, architect, and lead professor of two Professional Masters Programs at CMU's innovative Silicon Valley Campus and served CMU at it's Qatar Campus in the Middle East, and supported programs in Japan, India, Kazakhstan, and Mexico.

Dr. Carter served the software profession as a member and officer of IFIP Working Group 2.4 earning the coveted Silver Core Award, and ABET as a Computing Accreditation Commission evaluator, commissioner, and member of the Executive Committee for over ten years. His focus is to improve quality and bring more predictability to the development, operation, sustainment, and eventual retirement of large complex business-, mission-, and life-critical software intensive systems.
