Advice for New Students

Students studying

We asked readers, “What advice would you give to a new student?”

Here are a few of the responses we received:

“Do not get overwhelmed and discouraged when you first start. It looks daunting, but with a little organization and hard work, you can achieve your goals. One week at a time!”

“Find a quiet place to do classwork and research, eat healthy to keep your brain energized and always cite your sources!”

“Don’t wait ‘til the last minute on assignments. Gradually complete the work, and the assignments won’t be so intimidating. Further, back up your assertions with outside information. Remember the true meaning of education is to process and understand not just to regurgitate information back to a professor. Also, challenge concepts when necessary, presenting a different viewpoint is not wrong!!! Avoid ‘group think.’”
