Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Andy Miller, an Aspen University EdD alumni who truly embodies resilience and determination. Despite grappling with a diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy, Andy completed the Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning program at Aspen in 2021. Let’s dive into his story.

“Prior to my diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy- Cerebellar Type (probable), my superintendent and administrative experience had been very positive. I had worked extremely hard to accomplish not only goals that I had set for myself, but also those of the school district and community. After over 8 years in District Leadership, I had a proven track record of working with a wide range of students, staff, parents, and community members to increase engagement, develop consensus, and focus on programming needs that improve student learning.

As a part of my superintendency and district leadership experience, I have worked to pass an elementary facilities bond issue, revised the district’s strategic plan, negotiated agreements with employee groups, provided instructional leadership to support student achievement, oversaw district-wide system implementations, improved district communications, and even oversaw the development and construction of two new elementary buildings.

This broad range of experiences has prepared me to share these leadership experiences with future advisors, professors, and fellow online students. Because of the flexible online schedule and assistance, Aspen University offered me the goal and supportive hope I needed.

With my EdD complete, my life has changed. I would tell others still working on their goals that online education can be very challenging and stressful at times, especially when you have to work and take care of family, but don’t give up. I don’t know if I have any great words of wisdom; however, what I do know is I am a better administrator because of what I learned at Aspen!”

Andy Miller’s journey underscores the power of resilience, dedication, and the transformative nature of online education. He didn’t just graduate with an Ed.D from Aspen in 2021, he turned his life challenges into opportunities for growth, showing us all what’s possible with persistence and the right support.
