Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society

To recognize the academic achievements of students, The Distance Education and Training Council sponsors an honor society called the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society for Distance Learning. Graduating students from Aspen are qualified to gain membership and will receive a personalized Certificate of Membership and the Delta Epsilon Tau Gold Key of Distinction. Professionally die struck, sandblasted and polished, each Gold Key bears the Greek letters DET and two of the finest words in any language - Integrity and Excellence.

SYMBOLS OF DELTA EPSILON TAU

Delta, D, is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, and it is symbolized by a triangle. This International Honor Society joins three groups: students, colleges, and the Distance Education and Training Council.
Epsilon, E, the fifth letter of the Greek alphabet, stands for education and distinction. The "E" in Epsilon begins the Latin word "educo" or "educatum" and means to lead forth, to encourage mental, aesthetic, physical and moral development, through instruction for the business and duties of life.
Tau, T, the nineteenth letter of the Greek alphabet, means to instill good character. Tau brings recognition and praise for those who have worked valiantly and successfully in their field of study.

Membership Benefits:

  • National Student Recognition.
  • Delta Epsilon Tau is the only Honor Society in America that represents accredited distance learning institutions.
  • Outstanding students can list the distinction of membership in Delta Epsilon Tau on all future resumes when pursuing employment.
  • Information (point of contacts) to arrange networking opportunities with other Chapters can be arranged upon request

Membership Certificate – Each certificate, prepared individually, includes:

• The Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society Crest
• The Name of the Outstanding Student
• The Name of the Distance Learning Institution
• The Specific Chapter Name (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc.)
• The Official Date of Induction
• The Delta Epsilon Tau Gold Seal of Distinction

Honor Society Gold Key – To accompany the certificates, each honor student also receives the Delta Epsilon Tau Gold Key. Professionally die struck, sandblasted and polished, each Gold Key bears the Greek letters for DET. For presentation purposes, each Gold Key is handsomely profiled in its own case.

The emblem, a gold key or badge, may be worn with pride by those who have been elected to membership. This emblem bears the Greek letters for DET, the Flaming Torch and two of the finest words in any language—Integrity and Excellence.

The Flaming Torch represents the light of continuous learning. The light serves as a guide, meaning that the honor student is guided by the light of learning and will serve as a guide to others.

This image or symbol of knowledge illustrates the significant value of lifelong learning, which for many adults now enrolled in distance education institutions, includes continued learning while earning.

Congratulatory Letter – Each honor student receives a special congratulatory letter from the Honor Society President.

Honor Society Narrative & Overview – Each honor student receives a narrative and overview about the Society.

SELECTION CRITERIA

As most institutions and programs are dramatically unique, each Chapter's selection committee will be permitted to determine its own basic selection criteria. Once established, the selection criteria must be submitted in writing to the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society. In addition, each inductee is required to sign an honor code and publicity release form. This code documents that the student has:

  • Completed his/her own work, independently.
  • Maintained the minimum GPA as determined by the Chapter.
  • Met all additional Chapter requirements.

For more information, please write to Mr. Christopher Davis, President, Delta Epsilon Tau, Route 3, 521 Bird Haven Drive, Millville, DE 19970 or call (302) 541-0450. To e-mail DET, send all questions or concerns to DET@splus.net.

To apply for membership download the application in pdf format and submit to Aspen University with a check for the membership fee.
