HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

  • An application to a degree program may be completed online.

  • At this time, there is no GMAT requirement involved in the application process.

HAS ASPEN RECEIVED ANY AWARDS?

Aspen University was awarded "Best Distance Learning Program for Higher Education" by the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) in 1996. Aspen previously won the same award in both 1994 and 1991.

"The Aspen course is a model for what all online courses should be. The attention to detail and the quality of the total package is outstanding," said Inabeth Miller, USDLA awards judge and past President and Chairman Emeritus of USDLA. "The Aspen courses were among the best courses I have ever seen developed for the Internet, or any other medium. Our only question was which of the aspen courses to name as the winner. Each course exhibited the same high quality and any of them could have received the award."

HOW ARE ASPEN'S PROGRAMS DELIVERED?

Aspen offers two online study options, referred to as:

Online Interactive and
Online Independent
.

The Online Interactive option extends learning opportunities through peer-to-peer learning. Students use the online class platform (www.ecreateyourself.net) to communicate with fellow students and the faculty throughout the course. Peer-to-peer learning is what happens in a learning environment where students-most of them working professionals in business and information technology fields-interact regularly with one another to share insights and experiences. Some online interactive students claim that they learn as much from one another as they do from the instructor and the course materials, and many form lasting friendships that benefit both parties professionally.

Online Interactive classes are 8-weeks in duration and are offered throughout 5 scheduled terms per year. See the academic calendar/schedule.

Online Independent Online Independent students must select a start date that is the 1st or the 16th of any month. They submit the same assignments as their Online Interactive peers and receive feedback from their instructors. Students work one-on-one with the faculty via email, and forfeit the peer-to-peer learning opportunities (discussions) in favor of additional schedule flexibility, taking up to 10 weeks to complete each course.

Students may enroll in up to three courses at a time, and can mix courses in both study methods (Interactive and Independent).

A minimum number of students are required for a cohort group (Online Interactive program). If a sufficient number of students fail to enroll in a cohort group, all students will be enrolled in an Online Independent course.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO EARN MY DEGREE?

Although students are permitted to take up to three courses simultaneously, most complete one course at a time. For example, an MBA student would complete their degree in 2 years and 4 months if they took one course at a time, taking 10 weeks to complete each course. Independent students can work at their own pace and complete courses in less time than the 10 week limit.

In order to receive a degree, students must complete coursework according to the established continuous enrollment policy.

WHAT TYPE OF PROJECT IS REQUIRED?

Bachelor and Masters level degree programs require a capstone project. The Capstone course requires students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their courses to the work environment. This project is individualized; students are encouraged to select work-related projects that are of a particular interest to them and that will result in professional growth. Students should begin work on the project upon completion of the core courses. Capstone courses are 6 months in duration, although students may complete the course in less time.
